The brief
The owners had found an old carved cabinet and wanted it made into a basin unit that suited the age of the house.
What we did
We strengthened the cabinet and cut the oak top to take a hammered copper basin, then sealed the timber so it copes with splashes. A traditional mixer tap with copper details ties it together.
Old houses rarely have straight walls, so we scribed the top to the wall rather than filling gaps with sealant. The walls are in honed travertine, which suits the stone of the house.
We also replaced the old toilet with a close-coupled one, and moved the pipework into the wall so nothing shows.
